Cinderella | سندريلا
This unusual and intriguing interpretation of the ballet Cinderella with
choreography and staging by the renowned choreographer, Maguy Marin,
is set in a doll’s house with costumes to suit. This avant-garde, breakthrough
version of the tale of Cinderella, described as a brilliant theatrical
triumph, has toured the world since its premiere in 1985 and is acclaimed
for its amazing manipulation of mood, its intriguing narrative and innovative
staging. The production is regarded by some critics as a stepping stone
from classical ballet to something radically new.
The characters appear in shiny masks with their bodies stuffed like dolls.
Cinderella arrives in a scary child’s land, where shadows are darkest black
and full of fears. She finds that the best reassurance in the world is to be
cuddled and given a lollipop. What Cinderella wants most of all is to have
her ugly stepsisters and stepmother stop beating her, to have nice friends
and not be so lonely.
Sergei Prokofiev’s sparkling and dramatic multi-faceted music is performed
by one of ROHM’s most highly favoured orchestras, the superb PKFPrague
Philharmonia conducted by a brilliant young Russian conductor,
the multiple award-winning Konstantin Chudovsky.
